Climate Change is coming for us, but it already came for someone else.

Social Justice Oct 05, 2020

In Canada, recent climate action has called on Governments (provincial and federal) to commit to a green and just recovery, a movement that would bring justice to many. While I join in with this push for a green and just recovery, I must remember that, and ask other to do the same, climate justice is about more than just Canada (or your home country).

Normal is a crisis everywhere, but it is particularly poignant for those who live, breathe, and work on the frontlines of that crisis.

Principles of a Green and Just Recovery:
1.   Put people’s health first, no exceptions.
2.   Provide economic relief directly to the people.
3.   Help workers and communities, not corporate executives.
4.   Create resilience for future crises.
5.   Build solidarity and community across borders – don’t empower authoritarians.

Most of you, reading this, fight for our future and the futures of the generations to come. But there are others who fight for their present. They have fought far longer and far harder than us against the climate crisis and corporate greed, so much so that 2019 saw the highest recorded number of deaths to land defenders and climate activists.

These people are unheard by many, but they are not voiceless. We will not be or sit idle while others are prisoners of injustice. #FightClimateInjustice.
